Passport & Visa Requirements

As it is the passenger’s responsibility to ensure their passport and visas are in order, we recommend that agents ask them to acquaint themselves with the health and visa requirements related to the destinations they intend to visit.

Passport

As a traveller’s most important travel document, we recommend agents check the client’s passport to ensure it is valid at least six months from their return to New Zealand.

Remind clients to safeguard their passport. Aside from the inconvenience and time taken to replace a lost, stolen or damaged passport, an additional fee will apply to get a replacement (that may also have limited validity). If a passport is lost or stolen the client needs to contact the nearest New Zealand embassy, high commission or consulate, or online at passports.govt.nz, without delay. This is required by law.

Please note that since June 2005, all passengers travelling to the US must have a Machine Readable Passport (MRP) if they are under the Visa Waiver Programme (VWP). Travellers without a Machine Readable Passport will be refused travel at their departure point.

More information on passports can be found at passports.govt.nz or by calling the New Zealand Passport Office on  0800 22 50 50 (in New Zealand).

Visas*

Passengers are responsible for all visa and health documents required by laws of the countries intended on visiting or transiting. We strongly suggest clients contact the nearest embassy, high commission or consulate of the country they plan to visit. Contact information can be found in the White pages or online at mfat.govt.nz/en/embassies

A visa does not necessarily guarantee entry to a country, particularly if authorities suspect you might breach the conditions upon which the visa was issued.
